Charlie, Ferenc Demjén and Neoton Família – Legends at the Retro Festival

A popular venue of the St. Stephen’s Day celebrations, the Retro Festival is founded on the success of the Tabán Festival. The 3-day concert series continues a pop-rock concert tradition that goes back decades, with stars that have moved generations.

Starting on Friday, 18 August, the three-day RetroFest will offer retro music lovers the familiar atmosphere of the Tabán and a host of exciting musical delights. The bands playing the main acts, which have filled whole arenas for decades, are preparing for the 2023 St. Stephen’s Day celebration with unforgettable shows. Among others, we will meet star performers like Charlie, Rózsi Demjén, or Neoton Família, providing for plenty of nostalgic moments as well as a lot of fun.

The venue

Tabán is a hilly area between Gellért Hill and Castle Hill. The storied park has also become one of the most important venues of the Hungarian popular music scene since the 1970s, hosting the May 1st concerts every year, and all the representatives of the “great generation” have performed here. Sadly, the festival was discontinued in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but the tradition was resumed in 1997 and since then the Taban Festival has been held here again every year on Workers’ Day in May. As a continuation of this tradition, for the 3rd year in a row, the Retro Tabán, a three-day pop music programme, will be held as part of the St. Stephen’s Day celebrations.

On Friday evening, 18 August, the three-day retro party kicks off with the opening concert of Abaházi RT at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Takats Tamas Dirty Blues Band at 7:00 p.m. The Friday programme will close with Charlie, bringing an inimitable atmosphere, crazy stage energies and the greatest hits to the evening.
