“Gyertek, menjünk vendégségbe!” (Let’s Go on a Visit!) - concert by Zoltán Farkas "Batyu" and the Új Gereben orchestra, guest: Anikó Barna

The ensemble's predecessor, the original Gereben, was formed in 1978 under the leadership of the charismatic folk musician Antal Rácz, nicknamed "Citera". He fundamentally revamped zither-playing and established a very dynamic, improvisational style in the spirit of progressive folk music. The ensemble has become a legend in the Hungarian zither scene, a regular at domestic festivals and has given several concerts abroad.

Gereben was active until the death of Antal Rácz in 2016. In 2018, three members of the ensemble decided to renew the formation in the tradition of progressive style. This is how Helga Debreczeni-Kis was brought in. The four-piece band has now become a two-generation ensemble, with two excellent young musicians in addition to the two older members. The musical style is characterised by varied adaptations with improvisational interludes, a strong rhythm base with ütőgardon and drums, as well as a search for a wide range of possibilities in zither and cobza playing. Dance, in the form of male solos and couples' dances, is a regular feature of the programmes.
