Merende Workshop: “How much can a grain of wheat endure?”

Interactive-storytelling-activities from hand-milling to baking on an iron griddle.

During the activity designed for children, adults and even families alike, the Merende workshop offers simple manual activities: milling flour from grains of wheat, baking fresh pies from the flour.

The participants can grind flour from wheat using a hand grain mill, they can knead dough from wholemeal flour they have made and sifted themselves, and then bake this dough on a cookstove with a closed hearth on an iron plate to make the most ancient type of bread, unleavened flat bread, safely, under the guidance of an expert.

The action-based session also includes live-word storytelling. Storytelling takes place in the long-forgotten style of fairs, with the storyteller showing hand-painted blackboard pictures - giving the session a framework structure.
