“Örökség” National Children and Youth Folk Heritage Association (editor: Szilveszter Siketánc)

For an all-around education and skills development, children should explore the values folk culture has to offer. Folk games and folk dance improve the movement, body awareness, identity and social sensitivity of children, and when presented by the right educators, they are a form of leisure activity that is great experience for participants and audiences alike. providing a valuable alternative for children for spending their free time. The “Örökség” National Children and Youth Folk Heritage Association was founded 25+ years ago by choreographer Jolán Foltin, winner of the prestigious Kossuth Award, and it has been run in cooperation with committed children dance teachers based on these principles since. The current head of the Association is choreographer and dance teacher Szilveszter Siketáncz, who turned to education after spending 11 years at The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble as a professional dancer.
